Ukraine and Türkiye are preparing for a new round of trilateral talks with the United States and Russia. The meeting, originally scheduled for this week, was postponed at the request of the United States, states President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, following a conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

In addition, Zelenskyy told journalists that the talks were originally scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday in Türkiye. However, the United States proposed postponing the meeting to next week.

"But we are discussing with the American side. We’ll see what the date will be," the president said.

Zelenskyy also suggested that the location of the talks could change. In addition to Türkiye, Switzerland is being considered as a potential venue. The final decision will depend on developments in the Middle East.

Territorial issues and main topics

The president outlined the key issues on the agenda:

  • Prisoner exchange;

  • Preparation for a leaders’ meeting;

  • Discussion of a peace plan.

Zelenskyy also emphasized that territorial issues cannot be resolved without the direct involvement of the country leaders.

"Regarding this plan on territorial matters, I do not see (progress – ed.) without the level of leaders," he stressed.

Trilateral talks

Since the beginning of 2026, three rounds of trilateral consultations involving Ukraine, the United States, and Russia have already taken place, aimed at ending hostilities. Despite the lack of consensus on the status of occupied territories, including the Donbas, progress has been made in other areas during the negotiations.

The fourth round, scheduled for early March in Abu Dhabi, was canceled due to the escalation in the Middle East.

On March 9, Zelenskyy confirmed that the diplomatic process remains on hold because of the situation in Iran. At the same time, Steve Witkoff, a special envoy of Donald Trump, noted that the drafting of final documents has not stopped, and new results could emerge within a few weeks.
