The Russian military is suffering significant losses on the front lines, 30,000 to 35,000 troops per month. Currently, the ratio of Ukrainian to Russian casualties is approximately 1:8, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says in an interview with Le Monde.

Zelenskyy reveals war loss ratio between Russia and

The President emphasizes that the lack of progress on the front lines in Ukraine effectively means defeat for Russia.

According to him, most negotiations are based on the assumption that Russia is advancing and Ukraine is retreating, and Moscow often succeeds in imposing this narrative.

He says that, unfortunately, Moscow was very successful, very often, unfortunately, in selling that narrative to the United States

Zelenskyy also reveals Russia’s record losses. The President emphasizes that at the start of the war, the ratio was roughly one to three.

The President says that in the second half of 2025 and in January and February 2026, Russia had lost six soldiers for every Ukrainian soldier, and in some areas eight, adding that they were now losing a staggering number of people, between 30,000 and 35,000 a month

The Ukrainian leader also speculates on whether the Kremlin would decide to launch a large-scale mobilization.

He explains that he could not say whether they would decide to go for a major mobilization, adding that so far they had been afraid of such steps and had only been recruiting people for large sums of money.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also explains why Ukraine reacts so sensitively to the lifting of sanctions against Russia and Belarus.

The President concludes that it was about money and that money was not just tanks, noting that no one fought with tanks anymore. He adds that money meant drones and people, that people meant contracts, and that if they did not have money for contracts, their forces would diminish.

Recently, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that between March 17 and 20, Russia intensified its offensive on several fronts, leading to fierce fighting.

Tens of thousands of soldiers were thrown into so-called meat grinders, but their attempts failed, resulting in catastrophic losses.

According to Syrskyi, in just four days of intense assault operations, Russia lost over 6,090 servicemen killed and wounded.
