Zelenskyy reveals real situation across frontlines

The Ukrainian army destroyed 90% of the Russian forces that attempted to gain a foothold in the Pokrovsk direction. The situation on other sections of the front remains under control, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a meeting with journalists on August 20.
Pokrovsk direction
The head of state noted that in the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian forces had almost eliminated groups of Russian troops who had broken through deep into their positions.
"The real situation on the front. In the Pokrovsk direction, where there was a breach in our lines, we are destroying the Russian troops who broke through. They have been destroyed by 90%, almost 100%," Zelenskyy said.
Donetsk and Luhansk regions
According to the President, the situation on other sections of the front remains largely unchanged. "As for the Donetsk region, the 54th brigade is regaining its position. As for the Luhansk region, there are some good results," he said.
Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv regions
Zelenskyy also reported on the build-up of Russian forces in the Zaporizhzhia direction.
"Zaporizhzhia: there is a build-up of Russian forces. We reported that there would be a build-up in the Pokrovsk direction and Zaporizhzhia. We see that they are continuing to transfer part of their troops from the Kursk direction to Zaporizhzhia. Our positions there have not been lost," the President said.
The situation in the Kharkiv region remains stable. "Kharkiv: no changes, everything is normal," the head of state said.
Other directions
The President also commented on the situation in the Kupiansk and Sumy regions. "Kupiansk: there were sabotage groups in the northern part, and a counter-sabotage operation is also being carried out there. Sumy: We do not see any threats of advancement," he explained.
Zelenskyy separately addressed the situation in the Kursk region. "We maintain our presence in the Kursk region. Thanks to this presence, tens of thousands of Russian personnel are currently stationed there and are not being transferred to Donetsk and other areas," the President concluded.
On August 12, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the ratio of losses on the front line is currently approximately one to three in Ukraine's favor.
According to British intelligence, Russian army losses in the war against Ukraine in July 2025 fell to their lowest level since April 2024.
