Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán called Russian President Vladimir Putin today. Ukraine considers this just part of Orban's "game" for his own image, according to a statement from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"We all hope that Viktor Orbán will not, at least, be calling Assad (the Syrian dictator - ed.) in Moscow to listen to his hour-long lectures," said Zelenskyy.

The President of Ukraine emphasized that it is absolutely clear that achieving real peace and guaranteed security requires the determination of America, the unity of Europe, and the commitment of all partners to uphold the goals and principles of the UN Charter.

"There is no need to play for personal image at the expense of unity – we need to care about collective success. It is unity in Europe that always brings success. Discussions about the war against Ukraine, waged by Russia, cannot take place without Ukraine," Zelenskyy stressed.

At the same time, the head of state expressed gratitude to newly elected US President Donald Trump and other European leaders with whom Ukraine is already working to find the right and strong solutions for real peace.

Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held a phone conversation. Media reports indicate that the call was initiated by Orbán.

Zelenskyy also mentioned former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Last week, Syrian rebels, during a swift offensive, overthrew the dictator. Assad was forced to flee and is now hiding in Russia, where he has received shelter from his ally Putin.
