President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy may attend the inaugural Mass of Pope Leo XIV, which will take place on May 18, the Head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak, says in a comment to Reuters.

"He (Zelenskyy) is planning to come, but you know that before (Sunday) we have some other very important meetings (Sunday, May 18 – ed.)," Yermak said, referring to possible negotiations with Russia in Istanbul.

According to him, it is "difficult to be sure" during wartime, but the President of Ukraine would be glad to be in the Vatican on that day.

Yermak believes that the Vatican is a great place for President Zelenskyy to meet with other foreign leaders.

"The meeting with Trump was the confirmation of this," he added.

At the same time, the United States has not yet announced who will represent the country at the Pope's inaugural Mass.

Inaugural Mass

The new Pope, Leo XIV, will officially assume the papal throne on Sunday, May 18, during the inaugural Mass.

The first general audience with Pope Leo is scheduled for May 21.

La Repubblica previously reported that Pope Leo may visit Ukraine during his first foreign trip.
