The war has entered a phase where finances have become the key factor. This issue is currently relevant for both Ukraine and Russia, states Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a briefing with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.

"I think we have reached a stage of the war where everyone is fighting for finances," Zelenskyy said.

The president explained that technology is replacing old equipment and outdated weapons, regardless.

"The Russians are fighting against the introduction of sanctions because it limits their finances. We are also fighting for finances because production already exists, but it is not enough," the Ukrainian leader explained.

Sanctions against Russia

The leadership of the European Union plans to ban European companies from cooperating with two Chinese banks that have helped Russia circumvent existing trade restrictions.

The proposed measures are expected to be included in the draft of the EU’s 18th sanctions package. These actions aim to increase pressure on Moscow to achieve an immediate ceasefire and the start of peace negotiations.

The European Commission is expected to present the new sanctions package by the end of June. The EU hopes to secure the approval of all member states before the summit in Brussels on June 26.

At the same time, some media outlets note that the 18th sanctions package is one of the most powerful so far during the full-scale war, and Brussels may face difficulties in approving it.

Additionally, we reported earlier that in early April, senators from both the Republican and Democratic parties introduced a bill proposing tough sanctions against Russia for refusing to pursue long-term peace with Ukraine.

Recently, it was reported that the bill may be introduced to the Senate this week.
