Ukraine is not giving up on NATO membership, but the US is not ready to see it as an Alliance member. For now, multilateral, effective security guarantees for Ukraine similar to NATO membership are being considered, said President Volodymyr Zelenskyy while answering journalists' questions.

Zelenskyy emphasized that effective security guarantees are extremely important for Ukraine. Currently, the US, unfortunately, is not ready to see Ukraine join NATO.

"We know that the US is, for now, unfortunately, not ready to see Ukraine in NATO. This isn't a game, this is open information. At present, we are considering effective security guarantees from the European side - this is a Coalition of the Willing," the President said.

He added that bilateral security guarantees from the US remain highly important. In a 20-point document prepared by Ukraine and European representatives, this functions like NATO's Article 5.

"We want to study this issue in detail, and in the coming days, we will understand the specifics of these security guarantees," Zelenskyy said.

The security guarantees document is one of three main documents being discussed by Ukraine, European countries, and the US as part of an overall peace plan to end the war.

Before Zelenskyy's briefing, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Ukraine's security must be ensured, noting that in the long term, it represents the EU's first line of defense. Meanwhile, despite all efforts, security guarantees remain one of the most sensitive issues.
