For Ukraine, four issues in peace talks with the United States are the most sensitive. One of them is territory, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said while responding to questions from journalists.

The head of state noted that the most sensitive issues for Ukraine remain:

  • Donbas

  • Money

  • Security guarantees

  • Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant

Zelenskyy explained that although the Zaporizhzhia NPP is occupied, it cannot function normally without Ukraine, and everyone understands this. He added that the idea of exchanging territories is also being discussed, but this is unlikely to be the right approach.

"There are territories the Russians cannot hold. There are small areas in the Kharkiv and Sumy directions. If we stop at the contact line, what happens to those areas? That’s what we are discussing. The issue of territory overall is difficult," he added.

At the same time, Russia wants to capture part of the Donetsk region and is doing everything it can to achieve this. According to the President, the enemy will use various tools — informational, diplomatic, and military. But Ukraine must defend what is its own.

Talks with the United States

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine and the United States do not have a unified position on the issue of Donbas.

He also stressed that the Ukrainian government has no right to hand over the Donetsk and Luhansk regions to Russia. This is prohibited by the Constitution and by international law.

Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine is now fighting to ensure these territories are not given to Russia.
