Zelenskyy on Ukraine's readiness for EU accession negotiations: One step remains for Parliament
Ukraine will be ready to start negotiations for EU membership by the end of the year. There is one step left for the Ukrainian Parliament, according to an evening address of the head of the state.
"We cooperate fruitfully with the EU. It is important for us to start negotiations on EU membership this year. Ukraine has almost fulfilled the corresponding seven recommendations of the European Commission. Everything will be ready on our side. There is one step left for the Ukrainian Parliament, and it is important for the deputies to take this step," he stated.
According to him, the European Union is not only economic security for Ukraine but also motivation to fight, endure this winter, and achieve national goals despite the terror of Russian occupiers.
Ukraine's accession to the European Union
In 2022, Ukraine received candidate status for accession to the European Union. After this, our country must meet a series of conditions necessary for membership.
One of the stages on the path to the EU is the start of accession negotiations. Ukraine aims to launch them by the end of 2023. To achieve this, the proposal needs the support of the leaders of all 27 EU member countries.
As reported earlier by Politico, negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU were expected to begin by December. Diplomats, who preferred to remain anonymous, shared this information with journalists.
