Zelenskyy on Trump allies’ statements: They're seeking attention
The entourage of the future US President Donald Trump makes various statements, including those aimed at attracting attention. Ukraine will only take seriously a conversation with the US president, says President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with Ukrainian Radio.
“Every president has different voices around him that perform certain tasks. Sometimes we may not even realize why they are doing it. Sometimes they look at the reaction of their own and other societies with whom they need to negotiate... Sometimes, it is a personal expression of will by someone around them, to show off, to draw people's attention to themselves, or maybe Trump's,” the president said.
Zelenskyy emphasized that he would only take a conversation with the US president seriously. So far, Trump has not yet been inaugurated and cannot participate in all geopolitical processes, nor can he put an end to anything.
“Our teams will work on a meaningful meeting. I will be able to say about certain lines, how the United States sees it, how we respond to their vision, after a substantive meeting with President Trump, when he will have all his powers,” the head of state added.
Trump's entourage
Donald Trump himself and some of his associates have made several ambiguous statements about the war in Ukraine. For example, even before the election, Trump stated the need to reduce support for Ukraine.
Trump's main ally, future US Vice President JD Vance refused to call Russian president Vladimir Putin an enemy. He suggested that Ukraine would have to make concessions to end the war.
Trump also wants to appoint South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem as the head of the Department of the Interior. She claimed that the US aid to Ukraine was a strategic mistake.
