Zelenskyy on Canada’s G7 presidency: We hope to achieve a just peace in 2025
Ukraine hopes to achieve a just and lasting peace with Russia in 2025. Canada’s presidency of the G7 could play a key role in this effort, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Twitter (X).
"Canada's presidency of the G7 begins today. We all have high hopes for this year — hopes that, through our collective strength, we will achieve a stable and just peace in 2025," Zelenskyy stated.
He reminded that Canada has supported Ukraine in its fight for independence since the start of the full-scale war. The president expressed gratitude for all the assistance provided and for cooperation with the G7 countries.
"Over the past years of joint efforts, we have proven that the unity of the world's largest democracies can make life more secure. We count on achieving similar results in the new year. Together, we must ensure that Moscow gains no benefit from this war," the head of state added.
It is worth noting that in 2024, Italy held the presidency of the G7. In 2025, the presidency transitioned to Canada.
A few days ago, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The Ukrainian leader proposed increasing funding for the production of Ukrainian weapons.
