Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on US President Joe Biden's decision not to seek re-election, according to his post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

In his post, Zelenskyy wrote that Ukraine is grateful to Biden for his unwavering support in Ukraine's fight for freedom, which, alongside strong and bipartisan support in the US, has been and remains critically important.

The Ukrainian president noted that many strong decisions have been made over the past few years, and they will be remembered as bold steps taken by President Biden in response to challenging times.

"And we respect today's tough but strong decision. We will always be thankful for President Biden's leadership," the message reads.

Zelenskyy emphasized that Biden supported Ukraine at its most dramatic moment, helped prevent Putin's occupation of the country, and continued to support us throughout the horrific war.

At the end of the post, the president added that the current situation in Ukraine and across Europe is no less challenging, and we sincerely hope that the continued strong leadership of the US will not allow Russian evil to succeed or its aggression to pay off.

What happened

On Sunday, July 21, US President Joe Biden published a statement on social media platform X, announcing that he will not run for a second term. In a subsequent post, he stated that he is endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as his candidate for the US presidency.

Earlier, it was reported that White House representative Andrew Bates had stated Biden would not leave office before the end of his term, despite calls from some Republicans.
