Ukraine and Saudi Arabia have agreed on strategic security cooperation in three areas, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Details of the agreements
According to the head of state, the agreements were reached during a meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and are now being actively developed.
The cooperation covers the export of Ukraine’s security expertise in air defense, strengthening the resilience of the energy system, and issues of global food security.
"We are working together to strengthen our peoples and our partners. We have set tasks for our teams, and I expect their prompt and full implementation," Zelenskyy said.
Impact on international security
Zelenskyy stressed that amid the destabilization of international relations, it is bilateral cooperation that helps restore confidence.
The sides also exchanged assessments of the situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region.
"Now, when international relations are significantly destabilized, it is precisely this kind of bilateral engagement that restores confidence," the President noted.
Cooperation with Riyadh
Recently, Ukraine and Saudi Arabia officially signed a defense cooperation agreement. The document, concluded between the countries’ defense ministries, lays the groundwork for joint weapons production and technology exchange.
In addition, during his current visit to Riyadh, Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already held a meeting with a group of Ukrainian military experts. The specialists have been in the kingdom for more than a week to hold consultations and establish practical cooperation in the security sector.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Kyiv and Riyadh were set to sign a security agreement amid Ukraine’s intensified diplomatic efforts in the Persian Gulf region. Saudi Arabia continues to play an important mediating role, particularly in efforts to secure the return of Ukrainian prisoners of war.
