In New York, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz, according to the Office of the President.

During the meeting, Zelenskyy thanked Germany for its support of Ukraine and the strengthening of Ukraine's air defense. Additionally, he informed Scholz about the current situation on the front lines and discussed Ukraine's urgent needs.

"The President emphasized the importance of further strengthening Ukraine's air defense to protect civilian infrastructure ahead of the winter and the operation of the "grain corridor"," the statement reads.

Zelenskyy emphasized that acquiring additional air defense systems will enable the protection of Black Sea ports and the historical heritage of Odesa.

Furthermore, they discussed the preparations for the next meeting at the advisor level to discuss the points of the Ukrainian peace formula and the Global Peace Summit.

In addition, the leaders focused on preparations for the International Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine, which will take place in Germany in the summer of 2024.

Military aid

Germany is one of the leaders among Ukraine's allied countries in terms of supplying weaponry. Berlin has provided various types of artillery, both older and newer versions of Leopard tanks, air defense systems such as IRIS-T and Patriot, ammunition, vehicles, drones, and other types of weaponry.

As part of the aid package on August 17, Germany delivered two launchers for the short-range IRIS-T air defense missile system to Ukraine.

Furthermore, it was announced recently that the new aid package will include two hundred MRAP armored vehicles, as well as ammunition for mortars and artillery.
