Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with US Special Envoy Keith Kellogg, who is visiting Kyiv. The two sides discussed, among other issues, the purchase of Patriot systems for Ukraine, according to the Ukrainian head of state.

According to Zelenskyy, they talked about different areas of cooperation aimed at achieving real peace and ensuring Ukraine’s security.

Ukraine-US cooperation

In particular, they raised the issue of specific projects under the PURL initiative (purchasing American weapons funded by European countries) to finance and acquire Patriot air defense systems, as well as strong bilateral agreements on joint production of drones and weapons. The President expressed hope for a positive US response to such initiatives.

They also discussed increasing pressure on Russia and possible steps in tariff and sanctions policy to enable a leaders’ summit as soon as possible and bring the war to an end. Zelenskyy noted that a trilateral format would be the most effective.

Return of Ukrainian children

Zelenskyy said he also discussed with Kellogg the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia, international cooperation on this issue, and the conditions in which the children are being held.

Death of Charlie Kirk

The Ukrainian President offered condolences to the American people over the killing of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk and thanked US President Donald Trump for his sympathy and response to the murder of Ukrainian woman Iryna Zarutska in North Carolina.

"It is important that justice prevail every time violence seeks to take hold," the President stressed.

Preparations for the UN General Assembly

Zelenskyy noted that another topic was the planned events during the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, coordination between Ukraine and the US, and work within the Coalition of the Willing.
