Several US and Ukrainian officials familiar with the negotiations say that inviting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the US is being considered, CBS Nеws reports.
Zelenskyy's visit depends on the results of peace talks in Geneva on Sunday. He could travel next week as part of President Donald Trump's efforts on a peace plan, which he aims to approve by Thanksgiving on November 27.
Trump described the timeline as flexible and told reporters on Saturday that the plan was "not my final" proposal.
A senior White House official said there are currently no firm plans for Zelenskyy's visit, citing ongoing diplomatic activity. There are also no scheduled talks with Russia or in Russia.
Another possible outcome of the Geneva talks could involve US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll traveling to Russia or meeting with Russian officials elsewhere. However, nothing is scheduled so far, CBS News reports, citing officials familiar with the negotiations.
Geneva meeting
On Sunday, November 23, Ukraine, the US, and Europe began talks in Geneva at the national security advisor level. The goal is to finalize Trump's peace plan while taking into account Ukrainian and European interests.
The meeting occurs against a US-set deadline for Ukraine of November 27.
It remains unclear which positions Kyiv wants to change. Europe has prepared at least three counterproposals.
