Zelenskyy: Kremlin retreats from diplomacy after US delays Tomahawk decision

Just as the United States postponed the issue of providing Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles, the Kremlin began to step back from diplomacy and look for excuses to avoid negotiations, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The head of state recalled Russia’s strikes on infrastructure in the Sumy, Chernihiv, and other regions, adding that services are continuously working to repair the damage and restore electricity and heating for the population.
"Diplomats and political leaders must work just as actively and intensively. Just a few weeks ago, when Putin felt real pressure and the threat of the Tomahawk, he immediately showed readiness to return to diplomacy," Zelenskyy wrote, adding that the situation changed after the US decision.
The president reminded that Washington has not yet approved the provision of Tomahawks to Ukraine, after which Moscow began to look for excuses to delay the talks in Budapest.
"As soon as the pressure weakened a little, the Russians began trying to back away from diplomacy and postpone dialogue. Only pressure on Russia can correct and stop this. Only sufficient long-range capabilities of our defense bring Putin back to reality," Zelenskyy said, recalling the daily Russian terror against infrastructure on the eve of winter.
Putin–Trump summit postponed as Russia voices new conditions
It should be recalled that the announced meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is now under threat due to Russia’s stance on ending the war in Ukraine.
Moreover, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Moscow would not agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine until the so-called “root causes of the conflict” are resolved.
Shortly before this, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy returned from Washington with the news that the US is not yet ready to provide Ukraine with the Tomahawks that Putin feared.
