The actions and decisions of Russian leader Vladimir Putin may demonstrate his readiness or unwillingness to end the war against Ukraine, states Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The journalist asked Zelenskyy what exactly the head of the Kremlin must do to create belief that he truly wants to stop the bloodshed.
According to the Ukrainian president, the first step is primarily an energy ceasefire.
Zelenskyy emphasized that this would serve as a signal and that, if it did not happen, a trilateral meeting at the leaders’ level could take place.
The head of state is convinced that such a meeting could indeed take place.
At the same time, Zelenskyy stated that Putin’s decision to resume peace negotiations with Ukraine does not yet mean that the Kremlin will actually restore them.
It is entirely possible that the Russian president is only pretending to be ready for dialogue to reassure US President Donald Trump.
Zelenskyy stated that they should discuss the results after, rather than before, the relevant meeting. He questioned what would happen at the meeting, what escalation might occur in the Middle East, and whether the meeting would take place in Abu Dhabi or Europe, adding that they would have to wait and see.
Zelenskyy revealed the content of the document that the US President’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, delivered to Putin.
Furthermore, the head of state warned Washington against lifting sanctions against Russia solely for the sake of holding negotiations.
