Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. One of the main topics was strengthening air defense to destroy Shahed drones, according to the President.

Preparation for the heating season

The first issue discussed was preparations of the energy sector for the upcoming winter. Zelenskyy stressed the importance of staying ahead of schedule, given existing threats. The President noted that Naftogaz and Ukrenergo had achieved significant progress in energy production, supply, and electricity generation.

"Further measures have been approved for the purchase of the necessary gas volumes," Zelenskyy said.

Another key issue was the need to bolster Ukraine’s air defense. Zelenskyy instructed National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov to coordinate officials, regional administrations, and energy companies for the purchase of short- and medium-range air defense systems.

"The priority is intercepting Shaheds," Zelenskyy noted.

The President ordered weekly reports on deliveries.

The participants of the meeting discussed the protection of networks and energy facilities, as well as backup supply systems in frontline and border communities.

Zelenskyy said additional air defense systems to protect against missiles are being delivered faster. Kyiv counts on the maximum efforts of Ukrainian diplomats in their contacts with partners, he added.

A separate technological staff meeting is being prepared, involving Ukrainian missile and drone manufacturers and air defense developers.

"We will increase the production of our strike capabilities. The effectiveness of Ukrainian deep strikes must grow significantly," Zelenskyy emphasized.

Iris-T deliveries

Recently, it was reported that Germany may have delivered its eighth Iris-T SLM air defense system to Ukraine. This system can protect an area of up to 40 square kilometers and intercept targets at altitudes of up to 20 kilometers.
