Zelenskyy holds long conversation with Macron after European leaders' summit in Paris

On the evening of February 17, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a long conversation with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron following the European leaders' summit in Paris. The parties, in particular, coordinated their positions on security guarantees for Ukraine, according to Zelenskyy's Telegram channel.
The head of state noted that Macron had met with other European leaders, during which the parties discussed the global situation, the situation in Europe, and, in particular, security guarantees for Ukraine.
"We have a shared vision: there must be reliable, strong security guarantees. Any other decision without such guarantees, such as a fragile ceasefire, will only become another deception by Russia and a prelude to a new Russian war against Ukraine or other European countries," Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian president also added that Macron informed him about talks with other leaders, not just European ones.
"We agreed that we will remain in constant contact. Important matters are being decided," Zelenskyy's statement said, without specifying the details.
The president of Ukraine also emphasized the need to ensure a reliable, lasting peace.
"It can only be the result of strong security guarantees," the head of state added.
Meeting of European leaders in Paris
On February 17, French President Emmanuel Macron gathered the leaders of several European countries in Paris for an emergency summit to discuss European security issues. The meeting was prompted, in particular, by the policy of the new US President Donald Trump.
Western analysts and media reported that one of the key topics of the summit in Paris would be continued support for Ukraine in its war with Russia.
