US President Donald Trump and his team are ready to pressure Ukraine to end the war by demanding territorial concessions, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, Axios reports.
As the president of Ukraine noted, the latest talks between the Ukrainian delegation in Miami and Trump's special envoys — Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner — yielded no results.
"They want to end the war. My concern is that they see only one way to do it. I am sure President Trump and his team want to end the war. But why do we have to pay for this?" Zelenskyy said.
According to him, Ukraine is not the aggressor. And it is unclear why no one is truly assessing the danger of such a decision for the country's security.
The head of state added that after the end of the confrontation with Iran, the US authorities may again increase pressure on Ukraine to force it to make territorial concessions to end the war with Russia.
What preceded this
Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously revealed details of a tough US condition, according to which Ukraine must withdraw troops from Donbas in order to receive security guarantees. According to the president, the administration of Donald Trump is currently choosing a strategy of increasing pressure specifically on Kyiv.
At the same time, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called Zelenskyy's interpretation of an ultimatum to withdraw from Donbas in exchange for guarantees a lie, stating that Washington had a different approach to ending the war.
In addition, the president allowed for the possibility that the US could redirect weapons intended for Ukraine to the Middle East. At present, there have been no such signals, but Zelenskyy named a key factor on which this decision by the American side will depend.
