Zelenskyy discusses talks with Tusk and plans for 2025
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a conversation with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. They discussed joint work and plans for Poland's EU presidency, according to the President’s evening address.
Zelenskyy stated that he discussed Ukraine-Poland cooperation with Tusk and expressed gratitude for Poland’s support.
"We must continue working together to make both our countries stronger. During the conversation, we planned our joint work in these weeks and also next year, when Poland's presidency of the European Union begins," Zelenskyy said.
Tusk also made statements about Ukraine today.
Polish Prime Minister said that after Poland's EU presidency begins on January 1, he will "have a series of talks concerning primarily the situation beyond our eastern border".
"As you can imagine, our delegation will be co-responsible for, among other things, what the political calendar will look like, perhaps what the situation will be like during the negotiations (to end the war between Ukraine and Russia - ed.), which may, although there is still a question mark, start in the winter of this year," Tusk said.
Ukraine-Russia negotiations
Talks about resolving the war in Ukraine have intensified, but the Kremlin has simultaneously stepped up its shelling. The Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation notes that Russia continues to consider the war scenario as the main one.
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha emphasizes that Moscow is seeking a repetition of formats like Yalta-2 or Minsk-3, not a just peace. Despite claims of negotiations, the Kremlin is expanding the war, involving DPRK troops.
As for China, this is not the first time that Beijing has spoken about negotiations in the war. In particular, in February 2023, China published a so-called “peace plan” with its ideas for resolving the war.
