Zelenskyy discusses NABU draft law review with Merz - Germany offers support

Germany may take part in the review of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s draft law aimed at ensuring the independence of Ukraine’s anti-corruption bodies NABU and SAPO, according to Zelenskyy.
As the President said, he had a very good phone conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Zelenskyy informed Merz that he had approved a draft law guaranteeing the independence and effectiveness of Ukraine’s anti-corruption institutions. He noted that the bill has already been supported by the relevant anti-corruption agencies. Both sides also agreed that there must be no Russian interference in their work.
"I invited Germany to join the expert review of the bill. Friedrich assured me of readiness to assist," the President wrote.
The two leaders also discussed the implementation of agreements with the EU and ongoing efforts to launch accession talks. Germany expressed its support on this matter.
Zelenskyy added that he informed Merz about the situation on the frontline and the need for additional funding to boost drone production.
"We will work to scale up the quantity, especially of interceptor drones," the President emphasized.
Draft law on NABU
Earlier this week, Ukraine’s Parliament passed a law that reduces the powers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO), granting more control over these bodies to the Prosecutor General.
The move has already drawn criticism from Western partners and sparked mass protests in several Ukrainian cities.
In response, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy submitted a new draft law to Parliament aimed at restoring NABU’s independence. The bill also includes provisions to protect anti-corruption agencies from Russian influence.
