President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with a bipartisan delegation of the US Congress. The parties discussed, in particular, the needs of the Ukrainian military for weapons, reported the President on his Facebook.

The President thanked the US congressmen for the visit after a critical decision for Ukraine - the House of Representatives supported the allocation of new funds to help the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

"The people of Ukraine were expecting this decision. We are glad that the United States stays with Ukraine, that you stay our main powerful ally," Zelenskyy said.

He said that during the meeting, he discussed macro-financial support and military assistance with US lawmakers. In particular, the issues of Ukraine's need for:

  • artillery shells;
  • long-range missiles
  • electronic warfare equipment
  • drones
  • combat aviation;
  • support for the development of the defense industry.

The parties also discussed the confiscation of Russian assets, support for Ukraine's accession to NATO, security guarantees, a peace formula, and US participation in the Peace Summit.

Visit of the Congress delegation

Today, on April 22, the Congress delegation visited Ukraine. This happened after the House of Representatives approved a $60 billion bill on aid to Ukraine by the vote of a majority. It provides not only military but also financial support.

Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O'Brien also arrived in Kyiv. According to him, such support for Ukraine in Congress means that the assistance will continue until the end of the war with Russia.
