Zelenskyy discussed upcoming EU summit with European Council head
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone conversation with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, today, December 14, according to his statement.
According to Zelenskyy, they discussed the expected outcomes for Ukraine ahead of the European Union leaders' summit, aiming to demonstrate unwavering support and unity from the EU.
"These are essential for strengthening Ukraine's resilience in the face of Russian aggression and on the path to EU membership," noted the Ukrainian leader.
EU Summit
On December 14-15, the European Union leaders' summit will take place, during which decisions are expected regarding the Eurointegration perspectives of Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia.
Zelenskyy stated that a positive decision on the start of accession negotiations between Ukraine and the EU depends solely on the resilience of the member countries. If the decision is delayed, it would mean that Russian President Vladimir Putin has imposed a veto on it.
The summit will also address the allocation of 50 billion euros to Ukraine. European Commissioner for Budget Johannes Hahn stated that EU leaders are likely to approve a revision of the budget until 2027, which includes funding for Ukraine.
