A positive decision on the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU depends only on the resilience of the member states. If the decision is postponed, it means that Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin has vetoed it, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says during a visit to Norway.

Zelenskyy emphasizes that Ukraine was very constructive and did everything, fulfilling all the recommendations of our partners, admitting that "there is a blockage by Hungary and this is a fact."

The President says Ukraine has done everything to not give any chance to this or that state to block the start of negotiations. The only question here is the resilience of the EU countries because this year the Russian Federation did not have a single victory, they could not do anything, and they could not occupy a single village, not to mention cities, they could not do anything, adds the head of state.

At the same time, according to the President, Russia has started working with countries, not only in Europe, but also on many continents, and putting pressure on them.

Zelenskyy summarizes that if there is no positive result, it is not a question of plan B, we have only one plan - it is our choice to be in the EU, if there is no positive result, it means that Putin vetoed this decision.

EU summit

On December 14-15, a summit of European Union leaders will take place. European leaders will decide on the prospects for the integration of Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia. According to media reports, Hungary will block everything related to supporting Ukraine. Therefore, the summit may be delayed. In addition, according to Euractiv, the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU may be postponed until March 2024 because of Hungary's position.

Orban's position on Ukraine

Judging by the recent statements of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, he is categorically against the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU. Just recently, Orban proposed not to put the issue of Ukraine's accession to the EU on the agenda of the summit, as it is allegedly "clear in advance that there will be no agreement among the countries." In addition, Orban even threatens to disrupt the summit of EU leaders.
