Ukraine has received an invitation to the Board of Peace from US President Donald Trump, and diplomats are working on it, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says in response to questions from journalists.
"We have received the invitation, and diplomats are working on it. But Russia is our enemy, Belarus is their ally, it is difficult to imagine how we can be together with Russia in one board or another," Zelenskyy says.
He also notes that, in general, this does not apply specifically to this board, but Russia is a council of war, and Belarus is currently with them.
"I'll be honest with you, we need to survive. We are fighting for our independence, for our freedom, for our existence. In this struggle, we need all the help we can get. We are grateful to America for its help. President Trump has resumed intelligence. Today we are seeing another massive strike," the head of state adds.
According to him, Ukraine has missiles for Patriot air defense systems. Not everything works perfectly, but they are coming, and thanks to them, Ukraine is defending its sky.
"So far, America has not had enough strength to stop Putin. Although, frankly speaking, important documents are ready on this diplomatic path. They will protect us in the future and will restore life in Ukraine," Zelenskyy adds.
The Ukrainian President also stresses that Kyiv wants more in terms of sanctions policy. Nevertheless, the tankers are being stopped by the United States and the US president.
"Can America do more? Yes, it can. And we really want it to. We believe that the Americans are capable of doing so. They have demonstrated their strength more than once," Zelenskyy concludes.
Trump's Board of Peace
On January 15, Trump announced the creation of a Board of Peace to oversee the post-war administration of the Gaza Strip. Membership in the body is for three years, but countries that contribute more than $1 billion in cash during the first year will be able to hold their seats indefinitely.
Donald Trump sent official invitations to world leaders to participate in the Peace Council for the Gaza Strip. Among them are 49 countries and the European Commission.
The US President wants the signing ceremony to take place in Davos on Thursday, January 22, despite calls from some of the invitees to review the terms of the commission's work.
The Trump administration is also considering the creation of a Board of Peace for Ukraine, which will function along the lines of a similar body for the Gaza Strip.
