The situation with China is quite complicated for Ukraine. However, it is clear that China helps Russia, doesn’t help Ukraine, and isn’t interested in seeing Russia defeated, stated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a conversation with journalists.
Zelenskyy noted that China is a "very difficult question" because Ukraine has no direct dialogue with Beijing, and the Ukrainian President does not have direct communication with China's leader, Xi Jinping.
At the same time, Zelenskyy mentioned that Xi had promised not to sell weapons to Russia. Since then, there has been no news of any weapon sales packages, but China is helping Russia in other ways.
"I know nothing about arms packages, but I know one thing: China helps Russia, does not help Ukraine, and is not interested in our victory or Russia losing," the President concluded.
Chinese satellites and the transfer of intelligence to Russia
A major scandal recently erupted when, during a massive Russian missile attack on Ukraine on October 5, at least three Chinese reconnaissance satellites — Yaogan 33, Yaogan 33-03, and Yaogan 33-04 — were spotted over the Lviv region. Preliminary reports suggest they may have been conducting reconnaissance on behalf of Russia.
Oleh Aleksandrov, an officer with Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service, confirmed that Russia had received satellite data from China. This intelligence was used to carry out missile strikes by Russian forces.
Afterward, the Kremlin attempted to deny it. Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for Russian President Vladimir Putin, commented on the reports of China providing satellite data on Ukraine, stating that Russia has its own capabilities, including space-based ones.
