President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed Ukraine's accession to the European Union by 2027 with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker. Zelenskyy invited him to visit Ukraine in the near future.
Zelenskyy notes that during his conversation with Stocker, he discussed the energy situation in Ukraine after numerous Russian terrorist attacks. He thanks Chancellor for Austria's allocation of funds to support the Ukrainian energy sector.
Separately, Zelenskyy and Stocker discuss last week's negotiations in the UAE. Zelenskyy stresses that Ukraine's accession to the European Union is one of the key guarantees of security, not only for Kyiv but also for Europe.
"After all, Europe’s collective strength is possible, in particular, thanks to Ukraine’s security, technological, and economic contributions. That is why we are speaking about a concrete date – 2027 – and we count on partners’ support for our position," he says.
Zelenskyy adds that he had invited Stocker to visit Ukraine in the near future.
The US peace plan presented by Washington provides for Ukraine's accelerated accession to the European Union - no later than 2027. Washington believes that it will be able to overcome the resistance of Hungary and other countries that are skeptical about such a decision.
However, the EU is desperately resisting, saying that accession by 2027 is currently unlikely. The fact is that Ukraine has not yet officially completed any of the 36 stages of the negotiation process.
Ukraine recently confirmed that the initial drafts of the 20-point peace plan, which is being discussed in negotiations under the auspices of the US, set the date for accession to the European Union in 2027. However, this provision is currently being revised due to objections from some EU member states.
