Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will arrive in the Netherlands today, April 16, to attend the Four Freedoms award ceremony in Middelburg, NOS reports.

It is noted that the President of Ukraine will receive the award on behalf of the entire Ukrainian people. The ceremony will also be attended by King of the Netherlands Willem-Alexander, Princess Beatrix, and Prime Minister Rob Jetten.

After that, Zelenskyy will meet with Jetten to discuss the start of joint drone production and other areas of cooperation. The President of Ukraine will also discuss support from the Netherlands with the King.

What is known about the award

Four Freedoms is an international award established in honor of the four freedoms proclaimed by US President Franklin Roosevelt in 1941:

  • Freedom of speech.
  • Freedom of religion.
  • Freedom from want.
  • Freedom from fear.

The award is presented annually to individuals or organizations that have made a significant contribution to defending these principles. Previous recipients include Nelson Mandela, Mikhail Gorbachev, Angela Merkel, and others.

Each medal is accompanied by a monetary award. Traditionally, recipients direct these funds to charitable and humanitarian projects.

Yesterday, April 15, the Netherlands Minister of Justice and Security Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius announced the allocation of significant funding for drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
