Dutch Minister of Justice and Security Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius announced significant funding for drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to the Dutch Ministry of Defense.

Funding for drones for Ukraine

The Netherlands will allocate €248 million for the purchase and production of drones for the Ukrainian military. The announcement was made during a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, which includes representatives from more than 50 countries.

The equipment will be produced jointly at facilities in the Netherlands and Ukraine. This format of cooperation not only speeds up deliveries but also expands production capacity.

The role of drones on the battlefield

The minister emphasized that drones have become a key element of modern warfare.

According to her, Ukrainian forces are effectively using this technology to repel constant Russian attacks, demonstrating a high level of training.

She also noted that cooperation with Ukraine allows the Netherlands to gain practical experience, while opening up additional opportunities for businesses.

In her assessment, such a partnership creates mutually beneficial conditions for both countries.

Scale of support and international coordination

The Netherlands is already participating in the Drone Line initiative, under which hundreds of thousands of drones have been delivered to the front line.

Support for Ukraine in this area remains one of the priorities.

During the meeting, it was also emphasized that despite the focus on developments in the Middle East, the war in Ukraine has a greater impact on European security, and therefore, support will continue.

The Commander of the Dutch Armed Forces, General Onno Eichelsheim, criticized statements by US President Donald Trump regarding NATO, saying such remarks undermine the Alliance’s credibility and weaken deterrence against Russia.

It is also worth noting that EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas has called for accelerating the EU's enlargement process, stressing the need to more actively advance the integration of candidate countries, including Ukraine.
