On October 4, Ukraine and Germany signed a new historic agreement that will strengthen the positions of both Kyiv and Berlin on the global stage, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said while speaking with journalists.

The head of state publicly thanked German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who arrived in Kyiv today with his delegation.

According to Zelenskyy, the visit resulted in agreements on issues that are important for both countries.

"It was a truly important, good and strong visit in terms of a historic agreement — a general agreement worth €8.5 billion. And we are very grateful for the support," the president stressed.

Zelenskyy noted that not only is Germany helping Ukraine, but Ukraine is also sharing its knowledge and expertise, placing orders and taking part in joint production.

According to the president, this means creating new jobs both in Germany and Ukraine.

Zelenskyy confirmed that Kyiv and Berlin plan to actively cooperate in many different areas.

The president said that Ukraine and Germany signed a total of 15 agreements on October 4.

Key agreements include:

  • new Siemens Energy pumping equipment to support Naftogaz during the war;
  • a major order for IRIS-T air defense systems from Diehl;
  • efforts to increase Patriot missile production in Germany;
  • cooperation on Freya air defense systems;
  • an order for Hensoldt radars to detect enemy targets;
  • a contract with FFG to supply ammunition worth approximately €2 billion;
  • agreements with Amprion, Steag and Energo to help Ukraine get through the winter.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Merz publicly addressed Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit to Kyiv.

Zelenskyy also said that Ukraine is still trying to get German Taurus missiles.
