On Friday, October 17, President Donald Trump will discuss with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Ukraine's plans to launch an offensive, Politico reports.

Ahead of the meeting, where the provision of Tomahawk missiles and Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine is expected to be discussed, the American leader said that Kyiv wants to go offensive.

"They want to go offensive. I'll make a determination on that, but they would like to go offensive," Trump said.

Both Zelenskyy and Trump have announced that during their meeting at the White House, they will discuss Tomahawk cruise missiles and air defense systems.

The Ukrainian delegation in the US has already met this week with Raytheon, the manufacturer of Tomahawks, as well as Patriot air defense systems. Kyiv hopes that Friday's meeting will help secure the modern weaponry needed for the next counteroffensive against Russia.

"We indeed can go on the offensive — it all depends on the weapons we get and the approved plan," an unnamed senior Ukrainian official told Politico.

Zelenskyy and Trump meeting

It was recently announced that Zelenskyy will meet Trump in Washington on October 17.

The leaders of the two countries plan to focus primarily on long-range weapons, strengthening air defenses, sanctions against Russia, and energy security.

Zelenskyy last met Trump on September 23 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly and described that meeting as productive.
