Zelenskyy and Spanish PM discuss Ukraine's air defense needs
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. One of the topics of discussion was Ukraine's need for additional air defense systems, according to the press service of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
The Head of State expressed gratitude to Spain for all the assistance provided, the implementation of the security agreement, and the country's contribution to strengthening Ukraine's air defense.
“The President described the need for additional air defense capabilities in the face of Russian strikes on the Ukrainian energy sector,” the Presidential Administration said.
The press service added that a separate topic of the talks was Ukraine's integration into the European Union. Zelenskyy expressed hope that the first negotiation clusters would be opened at the beginning of the coming year.
The leaders also agreed to meet in the near future.
Air defense for Ukraine
Air defense remains Ukraine's priority request to its partners, as Russians continue to strike Ukrainian civilian infrastructure on a daily basis.
In particular, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently emphasized that from a tactical point of view, additional Patriot systems are the best security guarantees for the country.
He clarified that such security guarantees could effectively close Ukraine’s skies, requiring 10-12 additional batteries.
