Ukraine needs a reliable peace with Russia. The war must be ended as soon as possible, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated.

According to the head of the Ukrainian state, his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris lasted several hours. The leaders focused mainly on negotiations to end the war and on security guarantees.

"Peace must become truly durable. The war must end as soon as possible. Much now depends on the involvement of every leader. We will also be speaking with other leaders today," Zelenskyy emphasized.

US peace plan talks

In recent days, Ukrainian officials have been actively discussing the US peace plan with representatives of President Donald Trump's administration.

Initially, the peace plan included provisions that were unacceptable to Ukraine. One of them called for the complete withdrawal of Ukrainian defenders from the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and transferring them under Russia's control.

The initial version of the plan also ruled out any possibility of Ukraine's future NATO membership — the country would have had to formalize a neutral status.

However, after the meeting between Ukrainian and American officials in Geneva, the peace plan was revised. According to RBC-Ukraine's sources, it no longer includes limits on the size of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The American initiative is still under discussion. This week, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff will visit Moscow to present the document to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
