Approximately 40,000 Russian troops have already been diverted from Ukrainian territory in the Kursk direction. The active actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue, and the exchange fund is being replenished, stated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"A separate issue is the operation in the Kursk region. We have already managed to divert about 40 thousand Russian troops to this direction. Our active operations continue. There are also replenishments of the exchange fund for us, for Ukraine," Zelenskyy said.

According to him, these are important things that affect the overall situation in the war.

Battles in the Kursk region

The offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region has been ongoing for a month and a half. Ukrainian forces are making steady progress, having taken control of over a hundred settlements.

According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Ukrainian forces have expanded their foothold in the Kursk region.

Recently, it was reported that the number of Russian troops in the Kursk direction has increased. Currently, there are up to 45,000 soldiers there. They were redeployed from the combat zone in Ukraine.

Sources from RBC-Ukraine indicate that Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the military and political leadership to liberate the Kursk region by October 1.

On September 12, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Russia had begun a counteroffensive in the Kursk region.

Yesterday, the commandant's office of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that Ukrainian troops had halted the Russian advance in the Kursk region, and part of the territory remains under the control of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
