Trump will use all means at meeting with Putin for peace in Ukraine – White House

US President Donald Trump, during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, wants to use all levers to establish peace in Ukraine, according to a statement by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
Leavitt claims that "thanks to Trump’s determination," Ukraine and Russia have entered diplomatic talks, exchanged prisoners of war, and discussed other humanitarian issues.
The press secretary also reminded that the US leader has held numerous conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and has met several times with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"The Russian president requested this meeting with the president tomorrow, and the president wants to exhaust all options to try to bring this war to a peaceful resolution," Leavitt emphasized.
She said that Trump will fly to Alaska tomorrow morning, August 15. After a personal meeting with Putin, a bilateral lunch with the delegations of both countries is planned, followed by a press conference.
"What comes after that meeting is up to President Trump, and that’s part of the reason he’s going. He has incredible instinct, and he wants to sit down and look the Russian President in the eye and see what progress can be made to move the ball forward to end this brutal war and to restore peace," the press secretary stressed.
Trump-Putin meeting
US President Donald Trump announced last week that he would meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to Leavitt, the meeting will take place in Anchorage, Alaska.
Yesterday, August 13, Trump spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders. During the conversation, the US leader said he wanted to secure a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine at his meeting with Putin.
However, a little later, Trump admitted that he would most likely fail to persuade Putin to stop killing Ukrainians.
