During the Holodomor, the world could not see the full truth. Today, in the face of the war with Russia, there are only those who choose not to notice, states Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his speech on the occasion of Holodomor Remembrance Day.

During his speech, the President thanked all those who, together with Ukraine, are restoring historical truth and justice, as well as calling things by their proper names and not allowing the perpetrators of crimes to hide behind lies of alleged innocence.

"90 years ago, the world could not fully see what was really happening. Now there are no those who do not see. There are only those who choose not to notice. They are few. And there will be even fewer. The truth paves the way. On this path, the world must unite and condemn the crimes of the past. The world must unite and stop the crimes of the present," said the president.

Holodomor in Ukraine

In the early 20th century, Ukraine experienced three periods of artificial famine:

  • 1921-1923;
  • 1932-1933;
  • 1946-1947.

The most tragic was the famine of 1932-1933. At the time, it was a terrorist act on the part of the totalitarian system. As a result of the famine, not only a layer of wealthy peasant entrepreneurs disappeared, but also generations of the agricultural population. In particular, the nation's social foundations, traditions, spiritual culture, and identity were undermined.

According to various estimates, 7 to 10 million people died as a result of the Soviet Union's policy.
