Zelenskyy: $20 billion for Ukraine from US already in World Bank account
The US has transferred $20 billion to Ukraine's account at the World Bank. The funds are provided as part of a loan, which will be repaid using profits from frozen Russian assets, according to the evening address of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The President mentioned that today Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal briefed him on cooperation with partners, including financial cooperation.
"The Prime Minister reported that $20 billion from frozen Russian assets are already in the World Bank account," added Zelenskyy.
He also mentioned that the cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) was discussed separately, and there are already specific programs in place.
"Next year, we will be able to add additional energy capacity thanks to these EBRD programs alone. There are also additional funds for energy efficiency programs. It is very important to implement everything as quickly as possible," the president emphasized.
$20 billion from the US
The G7 countries plan to provide Ukraine with a $50 billion loan, which will be repaid using the proceeds from Russian assets.
Specifically, the US allocated $20 billion for this initiative. The funds were transferred just a week ago to the Financial Intermediary Fund for Resource Mobilization to Support Ukraine's Strengthening at the World Bank (F.O.R.T.I.S. Ukraine FIF).
