Zelenskyy announces plans to strengthen Ukrainian air defense
Ukraine's air defense will be strengthened to protect against Russian attacks. Work is currently underway with partners, according to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to the head of state, today, August 20, he discussed work with partners on air defense and new systems for Ukraine.
"We are preparing reinforcements," the President emphasized.
Zelenskyy also mentioned that he had received a report from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, on the defense situation in the Toretsk and Pokrovsk directions. The situation there is difficult, but Ukrainian soldiers are doing everything they can to eliminate the Russian soldiers.
According to the President, the General also reported on the situation in the Kursk direction.
"We are achieving certain objectives. And the priority, as before, is to replenish the exchange fund for Ukraine," he added.
What preceded it
Since the beginning of March, the Russian forces have intensified shelling of Ukraine's energy infrastructure. For this purpose, the enemy used ballistic missiles.
Because of the attacks, Ukrainian officials have repeatedly called on their allies to provide additional Patriot systems that can intercept such targets.
Therefore, Germany, the United States, Romania, and the Netherlands decided to provide one battery each. But, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted, the country needs at least seven such systems.
