On Sunday, April 26, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was once again in a blackout. This is now the 15th blackout since the start of the occupation in 2022, reports the Energoatom Telegram channel.
According to the report, the nuclear power plant lost external power once again.
"The Ferroalloy-1 power line was disconnected, causing the plant to enter blackout mode. For an hour and a half, the plant was powered by 19 backup diesel generators," the statement said.
Energoatom emphasized that this is already the 15th blackout at the ZNPP since its occupation. The company stressed that every such incident increases the risk to nuclear and radiation safety not only of Ukraine but also of Europe.
"The situation once again confirms the need for the earliest possible return of the plant to full control of Ukraine and its lawful operator, Energoatom, which is the only guarantee of safe operation of the largest nuclear power plant in Europe," the post said.
Zaporizhzhia NPP
On April 16, the Zaporizhzhia NPP also temporarily lost external power. At that time, it was the second loss of power in a week and the 14th since the start of the full-scale war.
On April 26, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with IAEA head Rafael Grossi. During the meeting, the Ukrainian leader stated that for safe operation, the plant must be returned to Ukraine's control.
