The Chinese vessel Yi Peng 3 has been unanchored. It is suspected of involvement in the breakdown of communication cables in the Baltic Sea, reports SVT.

According to the newspaper, Yi Peng 3 was weighed down at about 14:30 on Saturday, December 21. The vessel is currently heading north through the Kattegat Strait between Sweden and Denmark, towards Egypt.

There are also ships of the Danish Navy in the vicinity of the Yi Peng 3. The country's Defense Ministry said that the ships are escorting Yi Peng 3 out of Danish territory by “appropriate means.”

The Yi Peng 3 was able to set sail after the Chinese authorities allowed Swedish law enforcement officers to board the ship and conduct interrogations in the case of damaged communication cables.

What happened to the cables in the Baltic Sea

Two submarine cables were damaged in the Baltic Sea, including C-Lion1, which connects Helsinki and Rostock. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius suggested that the damage was intentional.

The suspect is the Chinese ship Yi Peng 3 with a Russian captain, which was inspected by the Danish Navy.

Also, a cable between Lithuania and Sweden was damaged in the Baltic Sea.
