Another damaged underwater communication cable has been discovered in the Baltic Sea, between Lithuania and Sweden, states the Chief Technical Officer of the Lithuanian telecommunications company Telia, Andrius Šemeškevičius.

According to him, the cable between Lithuania and Sweden was cut on Sunday morning, around 10:00 AM.

"The systems immediately reported that we had lost the connection. Further investigation and clarification took place, and it turned out that it was damaged," said Šemeškevičius.

The Telia representative noted that the cable transmits internet connectivity to Lithuania through three cables, meaning that the incident caused a one-third reduction in internet bandwidth. However, connectivity was restored for users by bypassing the fault.

Damage to the underwater cable between Finland and Germany

Today we reported that the C-Lion1 data transmission cable, which runs through the Baltic Sea between Finland and Germany, has been severed. The telecommunications connection has been disrupted. The cause of the damage is still unknown.

According to the company, cable repair work has already begun. It is currently unclear how long it will take to restore the connection. Typically, the repair time for underwater cables ranges from 5 to 15 days.

The length of the C-Lion1 cable is 1,173 kilometers. It runs between a bay in Helsinki and the German city of Rostock. The cable was commissioned in 2016 and is the only one that directly connects Finland to Central Europe.
