In Paris, security guarantees for Ukraine, the strengthening of sanctions, and the return of prisoners were discussed, according to Andriy Yermak, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

Yermak said that in Paris, together with the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, they met with:

  • Special Envoy of the President of the USA, Donald Trump, Steven Witkoff,

  • Adviser to the Prime Minister of Great Britain on issues of national security, Jonathan Powell,

  • Diplomatic adviser to the President of France Emmanuel Bonne,

  • Adviser to the Chancellor of Germany on national security, Günter Sautter,

  • Diplomatic adviser to the head of the Council of Ministers of Italy, Fabrizio Saggio.

"The main task is the practical implementation of the agreements of the leaders of states regarding security guarantees for Ukraine. They must be strong and effective in the sky, at sea, and on land," he explained.

According to Yermak, they also discussed strengthening the sanction pressure, the return of Ukrainian prisoners and children abducted by Russia.

"We continue coordination of positions to bring closer a lasting and just peace for Ukraine. The war which Russia started must be stopped. The President of the USA, Donald, – ed.) Trump's 'peace through strength' is exactly the approach that can influence the aggressor," he emphasized.

At the same time, Yermak also thanked all partners for their consistent support and constructive work.

Meeting in Paris

Today, on September 4, approximately 30 world leaders will meet with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, to discuss future security guarantees for Kyiv.

Negotiations are taking place against the backdrop of the absence of clear guarantees from the USA, which adds additional pressure on Ukraine's allies.

According to Reuters, the allies have already completed technical plans regarding guarantees and are preparing a political signal to the American president.

Confirmation of this came from the statement of President Emmanuel Macron of France, who reported that the preparation of the guarantees is complete, and the contributions of the allies are documented and confirmed at the level of defense ministers.

At the same time, President Zelenskyy emphasized yesterday that European security guarantees may be insufficient for restraining a possible new invasion of Russia. He noted that the active participation of the United States in this process remains critically important for the effectiveness of the security measures.
