Yak-130 combat training aircraft crashes in Russia
A Russian Yak-130 combat trainer aircraft has crashed. The accident occurred on Thursday, October 10, citing RIA Novosti.
Russian emergency services claim that the plane crashed near the border between Kalmykia and the Volgograd region.
Online, Russians are writing that the Yak-130 allegedly went down during a training flight. The preliminary cause of the crash is reported to be a technical failure. Russian media reported that the pilot ejected and survived.
Backstory
The Yak-130 is a combat training aircraft designed for pilot training. According to Russian sources, the aircraft is capable of performing maneuvers typical of fourth- and fifth-generation fighters. In its combat variant, it can also function as a light attack aircraft.
The Yak-130 is produced at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant, which is owned by Rostec.
Russian aviation losses
According to the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, Russia has lost 369 aircraft and 328 helicopters of various types since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
It was recently reported that a Russian Su-25 was destroyed near Kostyantynivka in the Donetsk region.
RBC-Ukraine sources in the Defense Forces reported that the Russian aircraft near Kostyantynivka was shot down by Russian forces themselves in a case of so-called friendly fire.
