Chinese leader Xi Jinping, during a recent phone conversation with US President Donald Trump, outlined Beijing’s principled position on Taiwan, Global Times reports.

During a briefing, the representative of the office commented on the content of the conversation between the two leaders, recalling the key points of the Chinese president.

According to him, Xi emphasized that "Taiwan’s return to China is an integral part of the post-war international order."

He also stressed that "China and the US fought shoulder to shoulder against fascism and militarism, and it’s even more important for two countries to jointly safeguard the victory of WWII (World War II)."

Peng Qingyen noted that the Chinese leader's speech has strategic significance for Beijing’s future work on the Taiwan issue.

"The important speech of President Xi provides significant guidance for our work regarding Taiwan. We will unite the people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to together remember history, protect achievements, foster peace, and create a better future," he said.

At the same time, Beijing confirmed its firm position against any manifestations of Taiwan’s autonomy.

"We will resolutely oppose 'Taiwan independence' separatist actions, work together to promote the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations, maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits, safeguard the common homeland of the Chinese nation, and create lasting prosperity for the Chinese people," the spokesperson said.
