Xi after meeting Trump: Focus on the economy and working for the world

“Economic and trade interactions should remain ballast and driver of ties, not obstacles or sources of conflict. It is important to focus on long-term benefits brought by cooperation rather than falling into vicious cycle of retaliation,” the Chinese leader said.

According to Xi Jinping, the trade and economic teams of the US and China have reached a basic consensus on resolving key issues.

“China and the United States should be partners and friends. That is what history has taught us and what reality needs,” Xi added.

He also called on the economic and trade teams of both sides to continuously narrow the list of problems and expand the list of cooperation areas based on the principles of equality, respect, and mutual benefit.

According to him, trade and economic ties should remain the driving force of China-US relations and not become a stumbling block.

China and the US should also maintain engagement at all levels and through all channels to improve mutual understanding.

Xi also said China and the US can work together to achieve more meaningful goals for the benefit of the whole world. In 2026, China will host the APEC summit, while the US will host the G20. The sides should support each other and strive for positive outcomes of both summits.

Meeting between Trump and Xi Jinping

On October 30, a meeting between Trump and Xi took place in South Korea, during which the parties discussed easing tensions in bilateral relations and the issue of ending the war in Ukraine.

Earlier, Xi Jinping praised Trump ahead of the summit, noting his contribution to ending the war in Gaza. The Chinese leader also proposed uniting efforts to resolve global conflicts.

According to Trump, China will join Washington’s efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
