Chinese leader Xi Jinping, ahead of talks with US President Donald Trump, praised him for his role in achieving the ceasefire in Gaza and suggested that both nations join efforts for the benefit of all countries, according to Sky News.

Before the start of talks with US President Donald Trump, Chinese leader Xi Jinping praised Trump’s efforts to achieve the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, expressing appreciation for his contribution to promoting global peace.

"Mr President, you care a lot about world peace - and you are very enthusiastic about settling various regional hotspot issues. I appreciate your great contribution to the recent conclusion of the Gaza ceasefire agreement," Xi said.

The Chinese president added that he was ready to continue working with Trump to strengthen US-China relations and create favorable conditions for the development of both nations.

Xi also emphasized that Beijing remains committed to advancing peace talks in other conflict zones around the world.

"The world today is confronted with many tough problems. China and the US can jointly shoulder responsibility as major countries and work together to accomplish more great and concrete things for the good of our two countries and the whole world," he said.

Following Xi’s remarks, Donald Trump declined to answer journalists’ questions regarding Washington’s decision to begin nuclear weapons testing.

Trump-Xi meeting in South Korea

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in South Korea. The agenda reportedly included resolving trade tensions and exploring ways to end the war in Ukraine.

The summit, held in Busan, marked the first in-person meeting between the two leaders during Trump’s second term; their last encounter took place in 2019.

Ahead of the meeting, Trump announced a possible 10% tariff reduction for China and hinted at offering access to advanced Nvidia chip technologies.

In turn, Beijing signaled readiness to make concessions, including the lifting of certain export restrictions.
