X-Men star Liev Schreiber arrives in Kyiv and visits site of Russian strike

American actor and director Liev Schreiber, known for the films X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Scream, has returned to Ukraine. The UNITED24 ambassador visited Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district, where he saw the aftermath of one of Russia’s strikes on the capital, according to UNITED24.
What Liev Schreiber saw in Kyiv
During his visit, the actor visited a residential building damaged in a Russian attack. A school is located next to the damaged apartment block.
After seeing the destruction, Schreiber stressed that Russian strikes continue to threaten civilians and civilian infrastructure.
The actor also highlighted Ukraine’s need to strengthen its air and missile defense.
“Missile defense is essential. America used to provide that. Hopefully, we can get that program going again,” Schreiber said.
This includes Patriot systems, which are capable of intercepting Russian missiles.
How Schreiber supports Ukraine
Liev Schreiber has Ukrainian roots and has been consistently supporting the country since the start of the full-scale war.
In July 2022, he became an official UNITED24 ambassador for the “Medical Aid” initiative.
The actor is also a co-founder of the charitable initiative BlueCheck Ukraine.
Schreiber previously visited Bucha and Borodyanka, helped Ukrainian refugees together with World Central Kitchen, and organized fundraisers to purchase generators for hospitals.
During one of these campaigns, Schreiber and other UNITED24 ambassadors helped raise around $3 million to support Ukrainian medical workers.
What is known about the August 20 attack on Kyiv
On the night of August 20, Russian forces launched a massive attack on Kyiv. The Solomianskyi district was among the areas that suffered the most extensive damage.
According to the latest reports, 16 people were killed and 41 others were injured in the capital as a result of the attack.
Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were damaged in the Solomianskyi district.
Earlier, the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office reported that at least 16 apartment buildings had been damaged, along with a school, a kindergarten and a children’s hospital.
