Why Word and Excel don't work
After updating Windows 11 to version 24H2, many Microsoft users have experienced problems with Office programs, including Word, Excel, and others.
Experts attribute these problems to an error in the operation of some defense mechanisms.
Thus, most complaints came from users who use cybersecurity software from CrowdStrike Falcon, because malware protection solutions enable certain functions. By the way, it was CrowdStrike's products that were associated with a large-scale Windows outage in July this year.
Microsoft claims that it is currently investigating whether this problem can occur in previous versions of Windows.
At the same time, the company says, “if you're a consumer using Home or Pro editions of Windows not managed by IT, none of this impacts you.”
Recently, the corporation blocked the Windows 11 24H2 update on computers running the Voicemeeter program due to a driver compatibility issue.
Microsoft and CrowdStrike Falcon assure that they are actively working to resolve the issue, but they have not yet announced the exact timing of the release of a stable update. At the same time, CrowdStrike has temporarily disabled the Enhanced Exploitation Visibility Prevention Policy on hosts running Windows 11 version 24H2, which should temporarily mitigate the anger of users who cannot use Word and Excel normally.
